Academic institutions are entities that offer education, perform research, manage activities, and issue degrees. The majority of educational institutions have provided their services for an extended period; hence, historical data regarding students, professors, and administration must be studied. This publication attempts to evaluate the implementation of data management strategies, specifically data warehouses, in the higher education sector. A systematic literature review using the PRISMA framework conducts an evaluation of data warehouse utilization at universities, emphasizing the application domain, data sources, and architecture of data warehouse schemas, covering the period from 2000 to 2025. We have selected thirty-one manuscripts for this evaluation. The final results present data warehouse solutions mostly related to student evaluation, distant learning, and academic staff’s achievement. The analysis closes with final recommendations and observations regarding the significance and advantages of employing data warehouses in higher education.
